Thieves Continue To Steal Sign At Loyola University

Stealing the sign of a school serves no benefit to anyone. Thus it's been a stressful situation for campus police and university officials at Loyola University.  Last month we reported here that the letters 'YOLO' was vandalized from the school sign on St. Charles Street. On Easter morning, an 'O' was also lifted. Though it was replaced this morning, a camera may have to be installed to catch the crooks.

Loyola University's iconic white letters continue to be targets for thieves following a March 3 "YOLO" theft.  The second "O" in the sign that faces St. Charles Ave. was stolen on Easter morning, according to Loyola spokesperson Mikel Pak.

University police noticed the letter missing at 2:01 a.m. on Sunday, according to Pak. It remained missing from the sign with the university closed Monday. By Tuesday, however, the O reappeared as students and staff gathered once again.

"The "O" was discovered missing on Easter morning, and has now been replaced," said Pak.

On Lundi Gras, vandals stole four of the Loyola sign's letters, "LOYO," likely stolen to spell "YOLO," a popular phrase that stands for "you only live once." That week, an anonymous alum donated the funds to the university to have the letters replaced.

When asked about the cost of the most recent replacement, Pak replied, "We have spare letters."

The investigation is still ongoing, and there are currently no suspects.
