Medical Marijuana Bill To Be Considered in Louisiana

Twenty states have now legalized the medical use of marijuana for treatment of glaucoma, cancer, diabetes and chronic pain condition. Could Louisiana be the next state on that list?

According to NOLA defender,
A bill that would clear the way for medical marijuana in Louisiana is set to be considered by the state Senate's Health and Welfare Committee Wednesday. SB 541, offered by Sen. Fred Mills (R-New Iberia), would allow neurologists, oncologists, and ophthalmologists to prescribe therapeutic cannabis "for the treatment of a qualifying medical condition."

Historic Carver Theater Re-Opens

When Dr. Eugene Oppman walked into his optometry practice about a month after Hurricane Katrina had laid waste to his Orleans Avenue building, he knew he couldn’t rebuild the landmark structure — originally built as a movie theater — as a medical clinic.
“The neighborhood across the street was gone. There was no density in this neighborhood anymore,” Oppman said. “And I basically had been through enough.”

Frank Herron, LSU Defensive Lineman Arrested for Bicycle Theft

LSU defensive lineman Frank Herron was arrested Monday for bicycle theft, LSU campus police said Monday.
Herron, 19, a redshirt freshman from Memphis, Tenn., was issued a misdemeanor summons and released as the investigation continues, LSU police Capt. Cory Lalonde told NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune.

Following recent alleged derogatory comments by Donald Sterling, owner of basketball team Los Angeles Clippers, a lot of angry sentiments has been shared across the nation. Yesterday morning, TMZ released an audio recording in which a male voice alleged to be Sterling's can be heard telling his girlfriend (who is Mexican and black) that he doesn’t want her to bring black people to Clippers games or post pictures with black people.

Louisiana's Angola Prison Rodeo Marks 50 Years

On Saturday April 26, the Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola celebrated its 50th year prison rodeo. The rodeo is one of the outlets of recreation for inmates. It is also the oldest operating prison rodeo in America.

'You Don't Deserve Children!' Chilling Words Grandma Who Shot Her Two Grandsons Then Herself Wrote To Daughter

A  family has been left shattered after their two young kids were shot to death by their own grandmother.
Debra Dennison, 47, of Connecticut, picked up her daughter’s children, Alton Perry, 2yrs, and Ashton Perry, 6 months old, from their day care in Preston.
She was supposed to take them to a birthday party, but instead shot and killed them before turning the gun on herself.
Dennison and her daughter Brenda Perry, who is the children's mother, had a difficult relationship for a long time, but they have recently reconciled.
According to a police report, Dennison left a suicide note to her daughter and her husband, saying that they do not deserve children

Darren Sharper Denied Bail In Arizona

Poor Darren, it don't look good at all.
On Wednesday April 16, Arizona police detectives recovered DNA matching that of former Saints safety Darren Sharper on one of two young women he allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted. As a result he was denied bail in Arizona yesterday.

According to TMZ,

Darren Sharper's future just got even bleaker ... because he's been shut down AGAIN on his plea for bail ... which means he will continue to call jail home ... and maybe for a long time.
Sharper's lawyer went to court in Arizona today ... asking the judge to let him out on bail.  He's been locked up in L.A. since February, where he also faces sexual assault charges.  The L.A. judge granted bail, but then ruled the Arizona sexual assault charges required her to keep him locked up.

Austin Rivers Takes on Oklahoma City Big Man Nick Collison, Gets Ejected

New Orleans Pelicans Guard Austin Rivers got in a shoving match with Oklahoma City Thunder's Nick Collison last night. Though it earned Austin Rivers and Nick Collision a double ejection, the Pelicans still won the game.

According to Sports Illustrated
Pelicans guard Austin Rivers and Thunder forward Nick Collison were ejected after getting into a shoving match during New Orleans’ 101-89 home victory over Oklahoma City on Monday.
This was a case of a younger player being unwilling to take any more guff from a veteran.
With a little over eight minutes remaining in the second quarter and New Orleans leading 32-31, Rivers shoved Collison as the Thunder big man tried to set a pick on him. The extracurricular activities continued as the action moved to the other end, with the 6-foot-9 Collison veering into the 6-foot-4 Rivers from behind as they ran up the court.

Fight Over Woman Ends in Gunshot For Former LSU Football Player

Granted there is nothing wrong with being aggressive when the circumstance demand it, a real man is the one who steps back and looks at the bigger picture. An ex-LSU football player now faces an attempted second-degree murder charge after fatally shooting former LSU player Tahj Jones during a fight over a woman.The incident happened on Friday April 11

Sulphur Police Chief Lewis Coats said Jones, a Sulphur resident, was shot Friday night at an apartment complex by Brandon Winey, a former offensive tackle for LSU.
Jones, 24, went to the apartment complex to visit a woman and Winey arrived shortly after to visit the same woman. A fight ensued, and Winey pulled out a handgun and shot Jones in the abdomen, Coats said.

Who is August Alsina?
Two weeks ago, if you had asked me about August, I wouldn’t have been able to tell you anything.  All I knew was that he was a tatted up R&B singer, who had a #1 record “I Luv This,” which featured Trinidad James on the original version and Chris Brown and Trey Songz on the remix.  I also knew that he had at some point formed a brotherhood with Trey Songz, but that friendship had dissolved over time.

Last Wednesday, before a media dinner to celebrate August’s new album Testimony, I dropped by the W Hotel in Hollywood to meet and get to know the 21-year-old New Orleans native.

Celebrities Paid to Attend Coachella

 
Like the Coachella Valley Festival, with the various festivals going on around New Orleans one wonders if celebrities are being paid to attend any of them.

Maybe even more surprising than what some celebrities are being paid to attend Coachella, is what some celebrities asked companies to pay them to attend the festival this weekend.
Get ready to hate your life….....
According to the Daily News, Vanessa Hudgens is raking in $15,000 from McDonald’s, while Glee’s Lea Michele is getting $20,000 to wear Lacoste clothes, all while doing nothing more than walking around having a good time.
Other celebs asking prices were also quite interesting. Reportedly Aaron Paul wanted $15,000 and two VIP passes, Kate Bosworth wanted $30,000 (really?), Joe Jonas was looking for something under $20,000, while British fashion blogger Louise Roe (whoever that is) asked for $5,000 and three tickets.
Damn, I should have hit some company up. They could had a real steal sending me. I don’t need $15K from McDonald’s. I would have settled for airfare, hotel accommodations, one ticket and few Big Macs. Oh well, their loss.

Event: Annual French Quarter Festival

Yaaaay festival goers! The hottest event this season; the French Quarter festival kicks off in full swing today.

The four days experience features for this year a new Big River Stage with amazing performances by Flow Tribe, Melody Cloud Singers, the New Birth Brass Band and a host of others. Admission is free plus it's a great event for the family with lots of fun, food and music. For the theater enthusiasts, there will also be three free films showing at Le Petit Theater (Bayou Maharajah: The Tragic Genius of James Booker, Ruthie the Duck Girl, Piano Players Rarely Play Together and The Whole Gritty City).

Yesterday morning Fox News host Heather Childers commited a hilarious Freudian slip by congratulating the UConn Huskies for winning the 2014 NAACP championship in basketball.

According to the Federal Election Commision, as of November of 2013 Melissa Peacock was a self employed comestologist, today she is (ooops...was) a congressional staff.

Master P Admits that Maybach Music Group is a Better Fit For Fat Trel

The music industry can be the most unprincipled and manipulative venture one can undertake. Martrel 'Fat Trel' Reeves is a budding rap artist from the DMV area and erstwhile member of the Hiphop trio Louie V Mob (composed of Master P, Fat Trel, Alley Boy). Despite coming up in the game under the trio dropping the mix The New World Order, the young rapper is now signed up with MMG rather than No Limit. 

In an interview with MTV news, Fat Trel says "It didn't go right. Things weren't done correctly on the business tip, so me and Master P have no relationship".

Master P doesn't sound bordered by this move. It appears he wanted the young rapper to carve out a niche in mainstream rap scene before giving him a deal. In a recent interview by AllHipHop, he explains

"I admit I was surprised when I heard that he did a deal with Wale because I thought they didn’t like each other," Master P said. "But I wish him the best with MMG, I think it’s a better fit for him as an artist."

He continues "I went above and beyond for Fat Trel, I took him out a negative environment, got him a safe place to stay in Los Angeles, transportation, put money in his pocket, paid for plane tickets and hotels for him and his team, got him exposure, put him on music with me and all without a contract just because I believed in the little homie."
 
"When I was around Fat Trel, he was in a rush to getting a check and a record deal versus being patient and building his own to be a true boss. I even spoke with his manager and told him that this was not an overnight process. I’m not in the business of signing artists, this second go round I want to help all of my artists/partners to become their own boss but that requires sacrifice and hard work if you want to make millions. I’m not just cutting checks and taking care of artists anymore. No Limit Forever is a real independent company, this is not just a write-off for us. And if you’re a real street dude, you would appreciate me for what I’ve already done for you and your family."
