The National Enquirer alleges that the TV host and comedienne Ellen DeGeneres is secretly mean though she projects a different image on camera. Though this isn't the first time the Enquirer has peddled false stories about Ellen, it does raise a question why the tabloid has focused on tearing the comedienne's image down.

Just like on the Oscars, ELLEN DEGENERES always comes off as a sweet little lady who wouldn’t harm a fly – but stories keep surfacing that she’s mean-spirited backstage, acting like a holy terror with her “Ellen” show staff.
Really?
So how come one of my reporters spotted Ellen’s wife, PORTIA DE ROSSI – who was enjoying a spa day in Santa Monica with two galpals – ordering 12 gift certificates for spa visits?
When asked: “Are you throwing a party?”
Portia replied she was buying them at the request of wife Ellen as surprise gifts for staffers on her show. Now, that’s mean!
