From Father To Son: The Talk

Son, grab a seat lemme talk to you.  (Clears throat) I want to speak to you frankly and plainly. If you don’t understand everything I say now, don’t worry, someday you will. Just don’t forget them.

 

First of all, never let your emotions get in the way of your assignment. In other words, don't let the small things stop you from doing the big things. In other words, always let the main thing be the main thing. You see, one day, we’ll all stand before God and he will ask us what we did with the assignment he gave each of us. When that day comes, it will not be cool to point fingers.  It won’t be okay to say your sister kicked you, your friends tricked you, your father dissed you or someone stole your innocence.  Those are excuses. Excuses aren’t necessarily lies but they’re distractions; and no matter how valid they are, only a failure holds on to them. Excuses sometimes come as love at first sight, easy money, hot sex, promise of significance, more respect, a short cut to a long dream, a chance to get even or just one more of whatever is not good for you. Never make excuses when you fail. Never stay where you fail. You have an assignment to fulfil. 

 

Son, those who really love you, love you. You don’t have to prove anything to anybody! Success brings attention but not necessarily love. Anytime you have to earn love, it is no longer love. It is very easy to think things can bring one love but like food that attracts flies, when the food is gone, the flies leave too.  This is why God will allow you to fall sick, get broke or even fail at certain moments in your life. Relax and take a deep breath when those bad days come because they will be some of the most precious days of your life. It is in those moments of loss and despair that true love and friendships are found. Fire burns chaff but purifies gold.

 

Before I forget: yes, you got my good looks and intelligence. Women like that; but never forget that a woman’s breast is not her heart and what she takes from you might be far far more expensive than what she offers. And when you finally meet the right woman, Son, love her deeply. Love her deeply not because of who she is or what she does but because of who you are. You are unforgettable and passionate and kind; and good women don’t tend to walk away from that; but if she does, let her remember you as the best man she ever met. Let her remember you for being creative in love, attentive in discourse, generous in affection, strong in character, a miser with anger, positive in outlook, fearsome in war, fair in conduct and merciful in judgment.

 

Son, I know that again, I have given you a long list of to dos. Well, truth is, you don’t have to do any of them to prove that you are my son or that you are a good person. You have nothing to prove. You are your father’s son and nothing can ever change that. If I encourage you to do these things, it is because of who I know you are, not because of what I want you to be.

You are my son, and I will always love you.

Plane Crashes into McDonalds in Northeast Louisiana

Imagine waiting on the drive-thru lane at McDonalds and as you look out the window, you observe a plane nosedive into the parking lot slamming on the asphalt. That's scary!

A McDonald’s plane crash in the parking lot of a Louisiana fast food restaurant has left a pilot with a broken leg and one car totaled this week, but fortunately no other serious injuries or deaths. McDonald’s customers were likely only turning into the drive-thru to get their morning coffee when the shocking site of a low-flying plane clipping a tree and taking a nosedive far from the runway scared many in the local New Orleans area. Monster Fish Caught in Venice

A Houston man fishing in Venice this past weekend reportedly hauled in the third largest grouper ever caught on a hand crank. Cullen Greer, 28 was fishing near an offshore rig 35miles of the Gulf Coast of Mexico on Saturday morning May 31st, 2014 when he thought he had snagged on a something. It was a Warsaw grouper weighing much larger than him. The grouper measured 6-foot 6-inches long, 6 feet in girth and weighed 297-pounds. Greer had about a 30 minutes battle with the fish.

According to report, the state record for warsaw grouper is 359.1-pound and was caught back in 2008.

Mayor Landrieu Opens Pools For Summer Rec Season

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu was at Stallings Playground on Monday June 2 to kick off summer programming for youths across the metro area and to announce the opening of 13 New Orleans Recreation Development Commission (NORDC) pools. With the humidity increasing, Mayor Landrieu couldn't resist diving into the pool to cool off

 In 2010 we expanded the number of pools from 8 to 13, and this summer we're also aiming to serve breakfast and lunch, or about 10,000 meals a day, to boys and girls," said Landrieu.

Driver Rescued by Good Samaritans After Truck Plunges Into Lake Ponchartrain

A 26-year old man from River Rigde is recovering at East Jefferson Hospital after his GMC pickup truck struck the Causeway bridge railing plunging into Lake Pontchartrain Saturday afternoon. He was rescued by passing motorists with life carrying vest and a rope.  One of the Samaritans says he didn't stop to think before jumping into the water to help the motorist.  According to police, the driver got distracted when he reached for his cell phone, which caused him to hit the railing. Police say the truck slid along the railing for 80 feet before it went over. The driver complains of some back pain, but his condition is still unknown. No one else was injured during the rescue.

Perfect Pitch 2 :Films in Baton Rouge, Casting Call Ending June 2, 2014

Casting directors for Pitch Perfect 2 are currently seeking volunteers as crowd extras for a live performance in the movie. Pitch Perfect 2 is the sequel to the hilarious 2012 A Cappella comedy. The sequel brings the girls back as the Bellas prepare to graduate from Barden University. Filming is in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Former Saints RB Darren Sproles List Metairie Townhouse For Sale

The name Darren Sproles had been a household name in the New Saints offense until his trade to Philadelphia Eagles in March earlier this year. The former Saints RB put up his townhouse for sale recently for $650,000. It's a three-story home with built-in shelving, hardwood flooring and vaulted ceilings. The 3,800 square feet of living space contain an updated kitchen, great room with a fireplace, three bedrooms and three full baths.

Sandra Bullock Settles Lawsuit With Watchmaker Over Use of Name

Sandra Bullock strolls in Garden Dist. New Orleans

Actress Sandra Bullock who delivered a commencement speech in May for graduates from Warren Easton High School, recently ended a two year legal battle with jewelry company Toywatch USA. The company had advertised on its website that a diamond-encrusted, white-band watch that it sold was the same as the one the actress had worn in the movie The Blind Side. Toywatch had promoted the watch as 'Bullock watch' and 'the Sandra Bullock watch'.

Though the terms of the lawsuit settlement are undisclosed, another actress Halle Berry has a pending $2million suit against the same company for associating her name and image with merchandise.

Terminator Genesis Currently Shoots In New Orleans: Sneak Peak At Arnold Schwarzenegger and Emilia Clarke on Set

Terminator Genesis began shooting in New Orleans in April. The movie which is the fifth installment of the Terminator series stars Jai Courtney, Emilia Clarke and Arnold
Schwarzenegger (who promises "I'll be back"). In the film scene, Arnold Schwarzenegger stands in the background as gun-wielding Emilia Clarke and Jai Courtney interrogates Jason Clarke.
As for Arnold Schwarzenegger's T-800's grey-haired appearance, he spoke to MTV explaining that the Terminator's flesh ages, though not as rapidly as a human's:

"Terminator deals a lot with time travel, so there will be a younger T-800, and then what that model does later on when it gets reprogrammed, and who gets a hold of him. So it will be all kinds of interesting twists in the movie, but I feel so good. The way that the character is written, it's a machine underneath. It's this metal skeleton. But above that is human flesh. And the Terminator's flesh ages, just like any other human being's flesh. Maybe not as fast. But it definitely ages."

Perhaps out of indication of Memorial day, New Orleans crooner August Alsina completely terrified his fans by hanging a suited dummy version of himself on his Instagram page. Realizing the unsavory gesture to many who have lost a loved one, the R&B singer quickly deleted it.  He had the words captioned under the post.

Lucky Johnson who is a cousin to famous movie director/actor Tyler Perry discusses his movie Sons of New Orleans on WDSU. Sons of New Orleans takes place in the 3rd Ward Housing Project of New Orleans and features rapper Skip and Mr.Meana (from Partners in Crime). Master P Responds To Wendy Williams, Clears the Air with Reality Show

Master P and his estranged; wife Sonya Miller are currently going through a nasty divorce that has taken several turns with Sonya claiming to be broke, Master P claiming that Sonya’s on drugs, Sonya firing back at Master P saying that he abducted their children, and then finally Master P having the kids testify against the abduction allegations, and so on.....really messy.

Apparently, the rapper recently hinted his plans for a new reality show which possibly would reveal his marital troubles. However, talkshow host Wendy Williams blasted P on her show for making such a move. 
 
 Now P's responds to Wendy Williams in the statement below

First of all, I thought Wendy Williams was my friend. I understand that her job is to entertain gossip but how could she keep picking up TMZ gossip as if it was real news when she should have contacted me directly if she was really concerned about my family, or me like she claims. If anyone understands being in the media and  having to deal with celebrity personal family gossip and betrayal, she should know because of her own situation. If she wants to know the truth, as my friend, she should call me directly to get the facts and the truth rather than joining the media circus and talking trash.

Actress Sandra Bullock delivered this year commencement speech on Monday May 19 at Warren Easton High School graduation. The graduates roared in excitement as she was introduced. Bullock has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Warren Easton since Katrina when she adopted the school in the city she loves.

Cobalt Medical Development to Break Ground in BioDistrict Downtown New Orleans

On Thursday May 22nd at 10:00am, Dallas based healthcare real estate company; Cobalt Medical Development will hold the groundbreaking for a 60-bed inpatient physical rehabilitation facility in the Medical district, Downtown New Orleans. The facility is expected to open in the Summer of 2015 attracting 165 construction jobs and 168 permanent jobs in three years.

An 18year old woman who shares the same name as New Orleans native and star Broncos quarterback; Peyton Manning was arrested in Nashville, Tennessee for felony drug charges on Monday May 19, 2014. According to CBS,

Police pulled Manning over for having her high beams on, according to an arrest warrant obtained by the paper.The warrant states that the arresting officer smelled marijuana in the vehicle, and a subsequent search by police found two mason jars of pot along with baggies of cocaine dissolving in a cup of Coca-Cola.
Police also found text messages on Manning's phone that referenced cocaine use, and money discovered in the suspect's purse was consistent with bills used in a drug deal,

Minnesota Beats Out New Orleans to Host Superbowl 52

In a decision made in Atlanta today, Super Bowl LII will be hosted at the new Vikings stadium in 2016, beating New Orleans a perennial favorite. It appears Minnesota's new dome was the deciding factor.

Louisiana, according to Rolling Out magazine is ranked the highest in the easiest State to catch an STD. It ranks 2nd in the prevalance for gonorrhea and 3rd with syphillis transmissions. The majority of STDs are preventable, so stay protected and wrap it up.

NBA Clipper's Donald Sterling With New Pretty Asian Girl?

While Donald Sterling might be known for his vile and racist comments, he is also known for dating ladies young enough to be his grand daughter. Over the weekend, the embattled NBA Clippers owner was spotted with a pretty young 20 something Asian girl at an In-N-Out burger joint in Westwood, CA. He pulled up in his Rolls Royce and hung out for about 20 minutes before the pair continued on their way.

Fantastic Four Shoots in Baton Rouge, Louisiana: Kate Mara and Co-stars Takes a Break From Set

Filming for the Fantastic Four reboot movie began on May 5 at the Celtic Media Center in Baton Rouge. On Wednesday this week Kate Mara who plays the character Sue Storm (Invisible Woman) was spotted with co-stars Jamie Bell, Miles Teller, and Reg E. Cathey dressed casually during a break from filming. The House of Cards star appeared in plain blue corduroy pants, a light sweater and a pair of plaid Vans shoes.
